So, you are probably wondering what the purpose of this template is. After all, there are already templates like Template:Europe topic that can be used for e.g. Religion in Europe. Well, I am currently working on the article Historical persecution by Christians again, and if I can get that one done so far, I would like to continue with the article Religious persecution. Not that there aren't already enough templates for that one, but I don't think that it is appropriate to address the concerns about religious persecution in a specific country in the general article on religious persecution. To me this strongly seems like Content forking. This should be addressed in the specific article on the religion of the relevent country. With this template one can point out where that article can be found. Also for other general articles on religion, like State religion, this template should be useful. I propose dividing this template on the basis of continent, meaning merge "Middle east" into Asia and Africa. Everything you mention is spot on and perhaps worse: dumping other types of regions between the continents depletes the real continents of real countries. This seems like a distraction when presented vertically next to a country article. Like "you don't really want to be here, you want to be somewhere else!" Should be constructed more like a navigational template, horizontally, and placed at the bottom of country articles IMO.
