Ideally, I want to see a frame from your image/video of the "hotel" room at the exhibition on commons, as I think it does meet FOP. Just an update: I've finished expanding the article 5x for DYK, and I have a hook ready to go (it's obviously one based on your video), and I've uploaded a fair use version of your image and credited you with the original. I intend to expand the article later tonight and tomorrow, but I haven't yet decided on how to handle the video. It would be perfect for DYK if we are allowed to use it! Hello again. A while back you pointed me to DC Preservation League's Historic Sites website as a resource for finding newer NRHP nomination forms that aren't available digitally elsewhere. Well, I'm currently working on National Geographic Society Headquarters, and where other forms I've found on that site have been hosted on that site, this one is hosted on Dropbox. As regards linking to it from our article, that seems less than ideal for a number of reasons. Have you encountered this sort of thing before, and do you have any advice for how to handle it? Should I link to the DC Historic Sites page for the listing where the form is found? Link directly to the Dropbox file? Leave it unlinked as it is currently? Yeah, that’s been an annoying bug I’ve dealt with on several articles. If you look at Titanic Memorial (Washington, D.C.), you’ll see how I’ve formatted the link by adding a note. Can you recommend any photography books that you like, or podcasts or video series? I ran into this great book a long time ago, back in 2004. It had a blue stripe across the cover and that's all I can remember. I spent years looking for it again and never found it. I'm starting to think it never existed! There was also a great podcast series a while back in the 2010s. This guy talked photography from soup to nuts, taught you how to make your own camera, etc. Now, his name escapes me. One thing I do remember about him is that he advocated for medium to large format photography, which is pretty rare these days. Got me interested, but I never took the leap. BTW, a lot of professionals online seem to be using Sony now. Any idea why? These are people who switched from Nikon and Canon. Viriditas (talk) 08:28, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, I don't have any photography books or listen to any podcasts, but the latter does sound intriguing. I'm not sure why people are switching brands. I've never owned anything fancy, just a basic Canon back in the day and now use my iPhone. We're going to London in a couple of weeks and if it's anything like our last overseas trip, I'll probably be taking 2000 photos or more (last time was 2100). It took a long time to upload them to Commons, especially since I don't speak French and a lot of the Versailles and Louvre categories are not in English. Not sure if you are aware, but the error messages in your notes are suppressed, but if you run a code snippet in CSS it shows "harvtxt error: no target: CITEREFBurch,_Joyner2007 (help)". I suspect you may already know about this without seeing the error. I could help fix it if I knew what you wanted. Do you want the notes to link to the sources? Okay, I see the problem. If you want to fix it, you need to use ref=author name in the source citation, because you are using non-standard author formats that {{harvtxt}} doesn't recognize. It expects only what appears in the citation template. Easy to fix. Example: you are using the non-standard format "Burch, Joyner", but the template wants to automatically create "Burch & Joyner" from the citation. Since it can't, it throws an error and doesn't link to the source. The workaround is to hard code it by adding ref=Burch, Joyner in the source citation to force the template to use it. You are doing just fine. The problem isn't your use of the template name, it's that it requires parity between the name of your author in the template and the author in the source citation that it points to. Hello, was checking out the photos on your user page, nice work. Although many are obvious Wikipedia mainspace worthy, I only checked one to see if it was on an article, the Mona Lisa crowd view. Added it, or actually exchanged it on the page for another tourist crowd shot from much closer in and missing the feeling of the crowd in the fuller room that you present. Thanks for uploading it. When I saw it I got pretty close on the side. Something I found interesting was how crowded it was going up the stairs and approaching the room where Mona Lisa resides, and very humid inside the museum. Then, once leaving and continuing up the hall, the crowd thinned out by probably 90 percent, and could actually walk at leisure. Good to see though. Thanks for being okay with adding it to the page. p.s. Just noticed how much the background coloring etc. changed between the previous photo in 2015 and yours in 2023, some redecoration going on in there somewhere. I saw it in 2017, and if I'm remembering correctly the 2015 background and presentation still existed (unless I'm wrong). I wanted to thank you again, APK, for your help updating the Hopewell Fund article infobox. Another editor came along and added our logo as well, and I think those changes have made the article look much more complete.

As the subject line suggests, I have a broader question that I’m hoping you might be able to help with—or at least point me in the right direction.

Would it make sense to expand the Hopewell Fund article and organize the existing text into sections? For comparison, the Arabella Advisors and Sixteen Thirty Fund articles both include multiple sections that discuss key developments and projects. The Hopewell Fund doesn't have anything like that, despite having extensive media coverage (very little of which is currently cited in the article).

I’ve started working on some proposed updates for independent editors to consider, but I’d value your perspective on the best way to approach them. What section headings would be appropriate? What kinds of information would belong in each section? And would it be better to arrange historical material chronologically or group it by theme?

@JB at Hopewell Fund: - If you have neutral, third-party, reliable sources discussing Hopewell Fund then I think expanding the article would be good (the same goes for all Wikipedia articles). I took a quick glance at the other articles you mentioned and Sixteen Thirty Fund is not a great example of how an article should be written. For instance, having separate sections for each year's spending is odd and that info could be condensed into one section, leaving out irrelevant details. Arabella Advisors has a better layout with broader coverage about various topics. I suppose for the Hopewell article, proposed sections could be "History", "Funding", "Projects", or something along those lines. I don't know anything about these groups, except for what I've read here, so if you can find someone with more expertise on these topics it might be helpful. This is incredibly useful feedback, APK. I just posted a new request on the Hopewell Fund talk page about adding a History section that would (a) consolidate existing claims from the article and place them in chronological order, and (b) add relevant new information pulled from news coverage (which I'm hoping all meets the reliable sources criteria). I would be eternally grateful if you could take a look and make sure everything seems correct. I will also post a message at WikProject Politics and maybe Wikipedia District of Columbia to see if I can attract interest from other politically savvy editors, although I hope you're able to perform at least a cursory review as well.
