Hi. Just so you know, edits such as this one are a waste of your time unless you absolutely can't stand to see double spacing on the editing view. Per MOS:DOUBLESPACE they are only rendered as single spaces in the reading view anyway. I want to add the Afghan Sunni Muslim Surid Dynasty, you said there needs to be a dynasty page; for this topic there won't be one because the page itself is adequate, because the founder is the sole world famous ruler, Sher Shah Suri who introduced the currency used by 1/4 of the world today RevolutionaryPatriot (talk) 11:16, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the late reply. The basis for only dynasties with pages is based on one of the suggestions of the notibility section of Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists. I would argue that Sher Shah Suri introducing currency used by 1/4 of the world makes Sher Shah Suri but not his dynasty and that "needs a page" rule should be used to avoid bloating the page to just a list of monachal states ruled by Sunni Muslims. General Maritime Treaty of 1820

Hiya. A thought for you - the signatories to the 1820 treaty were the coastal sheikhs, who at that time had no title or rule over the interior of their 'Emirates'. So the treaty was, in fact, with the cities (well, towns) of the coast... Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 04:49, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Just following other Malaysian state... For example Kelantan capital is Kota Bharu but royal seat is Kubang Kerian but Kubang Kerian is still part of Kota Bharu not new district. Same also like Kedah capital is Alor Setar but royal seat is anak bukit. Anak Bukit also in part of Alor Setar not new district. Malayan Law (talk) 08:49, 27 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just because it's that way in Kelantan doesn't make it so in other states, that is an assumption. The wikipedia page for Kuala Terengganu says that it is the royal capital, however that is unsourced. This page from Terengganu's government site [1] seems to indicate that Kuala Terengganu is the royal capital. If Bukit Chendering is the royal capital you would need to provide a source that says that. DervotNum4 (talk) 09:16, 27 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Note on grammar
Latest comment: 1 year ago2 comments2 people in discussion
There was no need for you to alter the sentence, in the Buzz Aldrin article, “The police declined to press charges against Aldrin, the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declaring that Sibrel had provoked him.” You rewrote the participial clause (participial phrase) ending that sentence as a second independent clause: “and the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declared that Sibrel had provoked him,” giving your reason as “Grammar, tense.”
But the prose was correct in formal English as written. It’s quite legitimate to attach a different subject to a participial clause when that subject differs from the one in the main clause, as in, say, “The game starting, she focused on the field,” or, “I relaxed with a drink, my work finished.” People seldom speak this way informally, but, in one fairly common usage today, someone will explain something and then add, “That said,…”
I’ve seen this kind of participial clause called a semiclause, but that seems to be an unusual name for it in formal grammar. Mucketymuck (talk) 05:58, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
With the phrasing "The police declined to press charges against Aldrin, the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declaring that Sibrel had provoked him." someone unfamiliar with the incident described could misinterpret the police not pressing charges and the district attorney declaring that Sibrel had provoked him to be seperate (which I did). To keep things clear I would argue the text should read something along the lines of "The police declined to press charges against Aldrin, as the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declared that Sibrel had provoked him." Hello, I see you reverted a constructive edit by a sock on Mahayana. The entire note was removed by an IP, but the sock was just adding it back. Did you revert the revert because of some other reason or was it just because it was done by a sock? I've added the note back to the article if that's fine. Anpang (talk) 12:32, 3 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It was entirely because they were a sock. I'm a firm believer that leaving sock edits up implicitly tells the sockmaster that they can get away with sockpuppetry as they can always just make a new sock, this especially matters with serial sockmasters such as with the one who I reverted here who over the years has made 175 different socks including suspected socks. However if anyone thinks there is value in the edits I revert they are free to revert me. DervotNum4 (talk) 14:29, 3 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, DervotNum4. I appreciate that you had a dispute with an IP editor about content at Chukai, but that does not justify starting an Rfc. I have removed the Rfc header, and encourage discussion about this at the Talk page. First of all, I understand that you have already discussed with the other editor at length about this, but there is no discussion at all at Talk:Chukai about it (apart from the decommissioned Rfc that was just initiated), thus no opportunity for other editors to even know there was a dispute going on. Discussions about article content should be held at the article Talk page, to facilitate multiple editors getting involved. Initiating an Rfc is a very expensive use of our most precious resource—editor time—as it runs for 31 days, and attracts responses from many editors. To justify that level of investment, you need a dispute that has been going on a long time, among many editors, with no clear consensus emerging. That is clearly not the case here. Please have a look at WP:RFCBEFORE and follow the recommendations there, before starting a new Rfc about this (or about any topic). Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 19:08, 6 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, I'm not sure how that would look like; it seems more logical to me to include them in the "Transitional period (2019–present)" section, on both lists, but of course – we can try and see how your preferred option would look like when implemented. — Sundostundmppria(talk / contribs)19:24, 28 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I feel that putting them together in "Transitional period (2019–present)" would give undue weight to a government that is still internationally unrecognised. And to clarify what I meant by a new section was a new section (probably a sub-section) for a separate list from the main list, like you've got the current list then you have a sub-section break and you have the GPU leaders there. If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

What you notice about y dna is true. if you look at Talk:Göktürks you can see there is argue there. As you notice most of the table is about burials that were after or even before. for example TUK001 is xiongnu period, KHN001 is mongol, OLN008 is female from Uyghur period (females don't have y dna).OLN001 is male from Uyghur period. TUK001 is female, TUK002 is xiongnu and haplogroup O-F26105,UAA001 is Mönkhkhairkhan and is haplo N. Other thing is using wrong subclades for samples for example both ZAA002 and ZAA004 are C-f1756 →f3830→SK1082 2A01:5EC0:1002:13E1:1:0:7F2C:FCC0 (talk) 15:26, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I saw that you reverted acouple of my edits, naming Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. I was not familiar with this page, and thought that I had written far enough away from the original text, although the facts seemed relatively straight forward enough for me that I didn't think that it required much. I appreciate that I may have fallen short.
I thought about suggesting that in future cases where you see a new user make a mistake such as this, you write to them on their talk page to explain their mistake and how they should correct it, rather than reverting their edits, but come to think of it I can see why it would be prioritized to remove things that have even a chance at breaching copyright and plagiarism rules.
At any rate, I tried to go for a better paraphrasing, including dropping some of the information that may be interesting but not necessary. If you have experience in this matter, I would appreciate some tips from you on how to best include this sort of information from a source without falling short on close paraphrasing.

Hey there,
As a novice editor, I am currently in the process of gradually expanding the Wikipedia page for the northern state of Sudan. I have already completed some tasks, such as expanding the history page. I am grateful for your assistance in correcting my errors. Currently, I am interested in adding additional towns to the locality section. Do you have any tips for me? Koulou'mOurti (talk) 19:11, 16 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've got nothing relating directly to expanding expanding Northern State, as expanding a location page is something I've never done. But I've got some general things for new editors, the most important of which is to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:BRD and understand that at some point an edit you make will be reverted and that that's part of the wiki editing process. If you ever find a citation going to a Sudan Tribune page and the article linked to is not the one described in the citation, you've got to use the Waybackmachine, Sudan Tribune articles move around quite a bit. I looked at about a dozen of their edits randomly and none looked constructive. After which I mass reverted their edits. Apparently a few were legit (whether intentionally or not). Hello! I'm sorry for not adding a source on the Tuyuhun wikipedia page. I'm using Peter B. Golden's work as a reference. He prefers the reconstruction "Togon" following Pulleyblank's work but he doesn't give a translation. He also quotes the linguist Shimunek for the alternative form *tʰɔyʁɔn (roughly 'Toyron' or 'Thoyron'). Shimunek believes it's a Para-Mongolic version of Modern Mongolian toyiɣn ‘gyrfalcon’.
Would it be better if I added a paragraph for the etymology?

Regarding Mat Salleh Rebellion, literally every battle and war on this website uses unit badge in lieu of flag, because most often this unit badge WAS the flag of the unit. This is the standard for military conflicts on Wikipedia.

Firstly, you mentioned that the flag of the Federated Malay States is actually correct, but it was used when the British were preparing to establish the Malayan Union; then the Malayan Union failed, and it was used by the Federation of Malaya before 1950... I have taken the liberty of placing the Federation of Malaya next to that flag. At that time, it was requested of Indian sepoys under the Malaya Command – which comprised the Federated Malay States, the Straits Settlements and the Unfederated Malay States, as well as parts of British Malaya – that they protect Malay territory. First off, you'll need a source for that, second off, a country that didn't exist at the time should not be listed in the infobox even if the British were preparing to use it. DervotNum4 (talk) 23:27, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I literally copied the information over from the James Brooke article to the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article and stated as much in my edit summary [7]. If you consider the information unacceptable for the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article [8], then you should also remove that same information from the James Brooke article. Otherwise, the standards being applied to the two articles are inconsistent. Also, most sentences/statements in the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article are also currently unsourced, and I wonder why all those other unsourced sentences/statements are allowed to stand. —Lowellian (reply) 01:22, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Makuria Map
Latest comment: 4 days ago15 comments3 people in discussion
The original map doesn't really show the occupation of akhmim and makes no mention of it(when I added it again) , and the current map has hardly any definition and definite borders in the current map it's just a bunch of incomprehensible lines drawn that hardly define a kingdom with borders making it hard for readers to define the borders of the kingdom, whereas the latter map clearly has a kingdom defined with borders at it's peak as most kingdoms empires and states are presented as on wiki when their at the height of their rule, that map was the map for the kingdom of Makuria for years and I still think it's the best one
I would say that the map used probably shouldn't give well defined borders given that what we know about their territory seems to be based mostly on what major settlements they occupied and in this way the 1000 AD map is better showing off settlements they were known to have authority over and showing an idea of where the edges of their control is whilst the 960 AD map gives the impression that these were their actual borders. I still trust LeGabrie's assertion that the 960 AD map goes too far north given that they were the one that made both versions of the map and I would recommend that we consult with them on this. DervotNum4 (talk) 17:13, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

My reply:s
Most maps of any empire on Wikipedia are shown at their maximum extent(i.e the roman empire and all others etc...) In fact the map of the Axumite empire has no sources justifying It's extant across the Sudanese red sea and yet it's the map of Axum at it's supposedly great extent,
here is an excerpt that utilises ancient sources" justifying the 960's map
"In 951 and 956, more invasions from the Makurian army into upper Egypt are recorded that reached up to the western oases of the desert at Kharga and the city of Aswan, these inturn led to an invasion into the northern parts of Nubia by the forces of the Ikhshidid egypt which briefly captured Qsar Ibirim in 957, the later action promoted a response from the Makurian army that advanced as far north as Akhmin in 960s"
and Keep in mind that map is actually more conservative and cautious it doesn't show akhmin
"I still trust LeGabrie's assertion that the 960 AD map goes too far north given that they were the one that made both versions of the map and I would recommend that we consult with them on this."
Again based on ancient historians from the time that was the maxiumim extent of the kingdom of Makuria with luxor and aswan under the hegemony of Makuria albeit for a short period but like most empires on Wiki are shown at their maximum extent like the Assyrian empire which only ruled egypt for about a decade,
This was the map created by him and left their for years
Also keep in Mind the Kingdom of Makuria took over Nobatia which extend from the borders of aswan to Wadi halfa in the 7th century, and in the 10 century makuria took over aswan and luxor (albiet for short while) and got so close to akhmim they raided it as the map shows (and also recorded by contemporary egyptian historians) , and most kingdom maps are shown at their greatest extent on wiki, so their is no problem with that map which is sourced by contemporary historian AllfactsandTruth (talk) 16:43, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
My concerns are still that the map displays too well defined bordered in a nations whose borders, aren't exactly fully understood (from what I gather). I think I'll be moving this discusion to Makuria's talk page and pinging LeGabrie as they probably understand better why they changed the maps. DervotNum4 (talk) 00:51, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I actually made both maps (old one I added Makuria's zone of influence, new one I made from scratch). The new one is cleaner, more detailed and generally more truthful. First: there were no "borders" in that sense of the word outside the Nile Valley. West of the Nile is Kordofan, which consists of savannah with occasional wadis and crags. We know that Makuria had some influence there, probably by enforcing tribute on the local population called "hillmen" by Muslim geographers. We know that medieval Nubian culture and presumably control extended at least as far west as Jebel al-Ain (where a monastery was found) and Jebel Haraza (medieval Nubian "box graves" as well as oral traditions), which is marked in the new map.
Concerning Akhmim and Upper Egypt: there are actually some sources that suggest that Makuria had a certain presence there between the mid-10th and mid-11th century. Mainly cultural, but at times also political. From an unpublished script I wrote a few years ago:
"In the 15th century at-Taghribirdi reported that the Nubians “marched on Aswan and beyond, down to Akhmim, killing and plundering, taking prisoners and setting fire to villages.”(Vantini 1975, p. 735) This description gives the image of a large raid rather than permanent conquest, especially since no occupation is reported by him or any other Arab historian. This also counts for al-Maqdisi, who wrote only shortly after the invasion, in 966, but still noted that Aswan constituted the frontier to Nubia, as well as al-Aswani, who visited Nubia in 970.(Vantini 1975, pp. 148 ; 601)
Still, there is evidence that Makuria was increasing its presence and influence in Upper Egypt. Michalowski proposed that Makuria occupied Egypt as far north as Edfu until the mid-11th century, referring to the contemporary blossoming of Christian Nubian culture in the local monastery of St. Mercurios.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) Indeed, a collection of manuscripts written in Coptic and Old Nobiin dating from 960 to 1060 attests connections to Nubia and even Nubian patronage.(van der Vliet and Djikstra 2019, pp. 13-15) It seems that many Nubians settled in Upper Egypt, while Copts settled in Nubia to escape Islamic persecution.(Effland 2004, p. 74 and Werner 2013, pp. 193-194) The monastery of St. Simeon in Aswan was rebuilt in Nubian style.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) On its walls we find an inscription which is dated after the ruling years of king Zachary, the same who had led the invasion of 962-964 and ruled until 969 at the latest.(Werner 2013, p. 101) Manuscripts discovered in the same monastery mention a Makurian occupation of the Arab towns of Esna, Armant and Abnud that lasted three years.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) A well-preserved fortress now known as Qal’at al-Baben, located 19 km south of Edfu, shows Nubian influences, suggesting that it was built by Makuria in the second half of the 10th century.(Effland 2004, pp. 58-75) In 989 we learn that Makuria deployed garrisons in the towns of Akhmim and Edfu.(Werner 2013, p. 104) In conclusion, we should refute the idea that Makuria annexed Upper Egypt as far north as Edfu for almost 100 years, as proposed by Michalowski, as such a quite drastic geo-political change certainly would have attracted the attention of Arab historians and geographers. Instead, we see a limited military presence in certain towns and a Nubian influence in the monastic milieu."
When I made the new map I had forgotten about this hehe. Therefore it would make sense to expand the map to Akhmim and mark that territory as "Zone of Influence" or something like that. Luckily I still have the map as xcf file, so I could still edit it accordingly. LeGabrie (talk) 11:30, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
hello LeGabrie, Alright that would be cool and I agree with you on akhmim as a "Zone of influence", at the same time i'm fine with the current map as it is.AllfactsandTruth (talk) 15:08, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
But didn't makuria have control of the 5th and 6th cataract like the old map suggests ?
The thing is it looks pretty much the same as the old one but a much more regional view compared to the old map (that shows the Mediterranean as well) where you can see Makuria's position in North east Africa in general especially in relation to others, in my personal opinion the Old one is still slightly better but if you feel this one is more accurate then go right ahead and update it (as both are your maps) AllfactsandTruth (talk) 01:49, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

5th cataract at least, possibly more. That's why there's a question mark in the new and the old map.

Uhm, it's clearly way more detailed (more place names in both English and Old Nubian, wadis, presence in Egypt marked as "Sphere of Influence"), cleaner and has a higher resolution. I cut out Lower Egypt in the new map because the map is already elongated enough in my opinion. I don't like the infobox stretching that far down into the article and pushing other images down like it does now. What do you think Dervot? LeGabrie (talk) 14:06, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Do you have a source that says they specifically says that the Kushite religion (not just Animism) was practiced in the Kingdom of Kush, if not then its inclusion in the infobox is WP:OR. DervotNum4 (talk) 17:10, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
