AppJet, Inc.[1]는 사용자가 클라이언트 웹 브라우저에서 웹 애플리케이션을 만들 수 있게 해주는 웹사이트였다. AppJet은 매사추세츠 공과대학교 졸업생 3명에 의해 설립되었으며, 그중 2명은 AppJet을 시작하기 전 구글의 엔지니어였다.[2] 이들은 2007년 12월 12일 초기 공개 베타를 출시하여 누구나 웹 앱을 만들 수 있도록 했다.

AppJet은 2007년 여름 Y Combinator로부터 자금을 지원받았다.[3] 그러나 이 프로젝트는 다른 사업에 집중하기 위해 2009년 7월 1일에 종료되었다. AppJet은 결국 2009년 12월 4일 구글에 비공개 금액으로 인수되었다.[4]

이 튜토리얼은 AppJet IDE를 사용하여 프로그래밍 샌드박스를 제공함으로써, 독자들이 샘플 코드를 실험해 볼 수 있도록 했다. 이는 IDE를 내장한 최초의 온라인 튜토리얼 중 하나였으며, 텍스트와 함께 전체 서버 측 웹 앱 프레임워크를 인라인으로 노출했다.

웹 소프트웨어 프레임워크

"AppJet"은 웹 애플리케이션 개발 플랫폼과 AppJet 애플리케이션을 구동하는 서버 측 자바스크립트 프레임워크를 모두 지칭한다. 이 프레임워크를 통해 개발자는 서버 측 및 클라이언트 측 스크립팅에 별도의 언어를 사용할 필요 없이 하나의 언어만 사용하여 전체 웹 애플리케이션을 코딩할 수 있다.
