Kuning adalah warna cahaya yang memberi rangsangan pada sel kerucut (cone cells) merah dan hijau pada retina mata manusia, tetapi tidak pada sel kerucut biru. Panjang gelombangnya antara 565-590 nm.

Warna kuning merupakan salah satu dari tiga warna primer subtraktif, bersama dengan magenta dan cyan. Sistem warna CMYK dalam cetak warna memakai empat warna tinta, salah satunya adalah kuning.

Proses cetak CMYK ditemukan sekitar taun 1890, ketika surat kabar pada waktu itu mulai menerbitkan komik strip berwarna.
