Vipassī adalah Buddha ke-22 dari 28 Buddha yang dijelaskan dalam Bab 27 dari Buddhavaṁsa.[1] Buddhavaṁsa adalah sebuah teks Buddhis yang menggambarkan kehidupan Buddha Gautama dan dua puluh tujuh Buddha sebelumnya. Ini adalah buku keempat belas dari Khuddaka Nikāya, yang pada gilirannya merupakan bagian dari Sutta Piṭaka. Sutta Piṭaka adalah salah satu dari tiga pitaka (bagian utama) yang bersama-sama membentuk Tripiṭaka, atau Kanon Pāli dalam ajaran Buddhisme Theravada.[2]
Buddha ketiga hingga Buddha terakhir dari Alamkarakalpa, Vipassī, didahului oleh Buddha Phussa dan diikuti oleh Buddha Sikhī.[3]
