Usage

Overview
name	name of the heritage railway
other_name	alternative name for railway
logo	file name of the logo image, doesn't require the `File:` prefix
logo_width	width of the logo image. 200px by default
logo_alt	alt attribute of the logo, as per WP:ALT
image	space for another image, usually a photo of the facility or the train; unlike the `logo` parameter, you need to apply the full form of image rendering syntax like this: `[[File:filename\|width\|alignment\|alt=]]`. It is best to make it align to center and avoid applying the thumbnail option here. Alternatively this parameter actually gives you freedom to put anything other than image inside, but be sensible.
image_name	another image parameter functions more similar to the `logo` parameter so you don't need to enter the full syntax for the image.
imagesize	width of the image of `image_name` parameter. 300px by default.
image_alt	alt attribute of the image of `image_name` parameter
caption	caption text below the `image_name` rendering
locale	locale of railway; county or local authority, etc.
terminus	main terminus of the railway
longitude	coordinates of principle station (where relevant)
latitude	[as above]
map	file name of the map image, doesn't require the `File:` prefix
map_caption	caption for map above
map_alt	alternative text for map for screen readers

Transcluding route map
routemap	the buttom space for a route diagram. If your route map is built up by the templates of project:route diagram template, the whole map is best to be written in a separate template and transcluded by the {{infobox rdt}}. This will prevent the map from breaking up in IE7 or older browsers. See West Coast Wilderness Railway for example.
routemap_name	header title of the routemap section, Route map by default
routemap_state	collapse state of the route map section. "Show" by default. Input collapsed to "hide" the map in the article by default.
Transcluded template
templatename	If the infobox template forms part of another transcluded template, rather than placed directly in the article, the templatename parameter can be set to the name of the template to produce view-discuss-edit (v-d-e) links at the bottom of the template. For example, Talyllyn Railway has a separate template, {{Talyllyn Railway infobox}} which calls {{Infobox heritage railway}}. {{Talyllyn Railway infobox}} uses the parameter `templatename = Template:Talyllyn Railway infobox`. This allows users to edit the information in the infobox without struggling to find it, whilst users wishing to edit the article itself are not bogged down with long lists of infobox code, which can be confusing to new users.

The HTML mark up produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue article across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. If the place or venue has an "established", "founded", "opened" or similar date, specific to the day, use {{Start date}} (unless the date is before 1583 CE); if it has a URL, use {{URL}}.
