The United Kingdom has participated in the biennial classical music competition Eurovision Young Musicians sixteen times since its debut in 1982. The British participant broadcaster in the contest is the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). They hosted the inaugural contest in 1982 and won the contest in 1994.[1] They returned to the contest in 2018 after a 8-year absence as hosts,[2] but did not return for the next editions in 2022[3]
or 2024.
The competition was established in 1978 by Humphrey Burton and Walter Todds, both of whom are former members of the BBC Television Music Department.[4] From 1982, the winner of the show often proceeded to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Young Musicians.[4][6]
