Hamilton Deane, né le à New Ross dans le comté de Wexford et mort le dans le borough d'Ealing à Londres, est un acteur et dramaturge irlandais. Il a joué un rôle clé dans la popularisation du Dracula de Bram Stoker en pièce de théâtre puis en film.

Dracula au théâtre

La première de la pièce Dracula adaptée par Hamilton Deane d'après le roman de Bram Stoker, a lieu le au Grand Théâtre de Derby en Angleterre, avec Raymond Huntley dans le rôle du comte Dracula et Deane dans celui de Van Helsing ; les critiques sont réservés mais c'est un énorme succès public ; la pièce est jouée à Londres pendant plusieurs années[1].

En 1927, la pièce est montée à Broadway, réécrite par le dramaturge américain John L. Balderston, avec Béla Lugosi dans le rôle de Dracula ; le spectacle est joué pendant un an à New York puis en tournée pendant deux ans aux États-Unis[2].
