Fluorokarbon

Gelas yang berisi campuran lapisan air berwarna (atas) dan lapisan air yang mengandung perfluoroheptana yang jauh lebih padat (bawah); ikan mas dan kepiting tidak bisa menembus batas; sedangkan uang logam tenggelam di dasar gelas.

Fluorokarbon, kadang-kadang juga disebut perfluorokarbon atau PFC, adalah senyawa organofluorin dengan rumus CxFy, yang hanya mengandung karbon dan fluor,[1] meskipun tidak sepenuhnya sesuai dengan terminologinya.[2] Senyawa dengan awalan "perfluoro-" adalah hidrokarbon, termasuk heteroatom, semua ikatan C-H telah digantikan oleh ikatan C-F.[3] Fluorokarbon dapat berupa perfluoroalkana, fluoroalkena, fluoroalkuna dan senyawa perfluoroaromatik. Fluorokarbon dan turunannya (senyawa perfluorinasi) digunakan sebagai fluoropolimer, zat pendingin, pelarut, dan anestesi.
