Chemihuevi Landing was formerly a 19th C riverboat landing when there was a vital 19th C riverboat trade on the Colorado River prior to the damming of the river at Parker Dam, that flooded the area, and buried Indian artifacts underwater. Here is an article about some diving excavations to explore Chemhuevi Landing and other landings along the Colorado R. that were flooded. The “fledgling cities” (most likely all of these were former indigencous villages, Castle Dome, Ehrenberg, Williams Fork, Mohave City, Ft. Mohave, Hardyville, Callvalle. For historic artists, or types of art, that are not extremely famous (so not Rembrandt), it may be worth listing dedicated exhibitions in major museums going back as much as say forty years, as these can be crucial to the reputation of the artist or topic, and scholarship on them. In such cases, when a major exhibition is actually running, it can be appropriate to add a sentence saying so to the end of the lead; but it should be moved down to near the end of the article when the exhibition closes.

Hi @Netherzone:! You are right in that my edit summary is slightly confusing. I'll work on better wording. The short answer is that (hopefully) you can create an account on newspapers.com that will allow you to clip an article.

The longer answer is that when you go to WP:LIBRARY, then log in, then go to the newspapers.com site, then find an article, there should be a "Clip" link at the upper right. If you click on that, a window titled "Register with Newspapers.com™ to create a clipping" will appear and the choices are

"Register with email",

"Continue with Ancestry",:

"Continue with Facebook".

I believe that if you select "Register with email", you should be able to register and create an account on newspapers.com and save clippings. After you have a newspapers.com account, you would click on the link at the bottom "Already have a Newspapers.com™ account? Sign In".

However, I am not sure about whether it is now possible to create an email account with newspapers.com as I had an email account with newspapers.com via Wikipedia before the new proxy system came out so it might not be possible to create an account on newspapers.com

I find newspapers.com to be very useful and would like the references for it to work for non-logged in users and for users who do not meet the WP:LIBRARY requirements.

One issue is that the URLs for the clipped articles need to be edited by hand. "www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org" should be replaced with "www.newspapers.com". For example:

I think the correct sequence is for you to tag the mainspace redirect for G6 and when an admin sees it, then move the draft back. When you tag it, there's a way to signal to the admin that there's a page needing moved and we can do it simultaneously. I see that in AfC but not sure if it would work here (@DoubleGrazing, @Timtrent do you know?) BUt you're correct, it shouldn't have been moved even if it's a tacit acceptance of I acknowledge it's not ready. I wish there were a way to move protect all discussions at AfD because really there's no reason for anyone to move an article while it's at AfD. Is that helpful? Star Mississippi

I'm certainly no expert, but AFAIK that special flavour of G6, {{Db-afc-move}}, is only for AfC acceptances, and won't even come up in Twinkle's CSD dialog box outside the Draft: space. But another G6, {{Db-move}}, should be okay; likewise, {{Db-r2}}. Whichever variant you (us mere mortals, that is) use, involves a wait for one of our lovely admins to come along to do the deed, so it's not like one Db works quicker or smoother than the others.

Gråbergs Gråa Sång is correct (to the best of my knowledge) about NC-ND images and Commons as explained in c:COM:LJ and c:COM:FAIR. FWIW, Creative Commons offers lots a variety of licensing, but only those meeting c:COM:L are OK for Wikimedia Commons; for reference, despite the similarity in name (which can be confusing) Creative Commons and Wikimedia Commons are two completely different things.

All the images used in this article are uploaded to Commons; so, any issues with them (or others not being used in this article but also found in c:Category:Rehahn) will need to be sorted out on Commons. The copyright holder of a photo is generally considered the person who takes the photo and an acceptable CC license is usually fine for most cases of c:COM:Own work; however, if someone photographs another's copyright eligible creative work, their copyright over their photo doesn't include the copyright of whatever they've photographed. Such photos can be examples of c:COM:DW (or even possibly c:COM:2D copying) in which there could be multiple copyrights and multiple copyright holders that need to be considered. Commons will only host derivative works that are 100% free; so, even if the photo itself is free, Commons will only keep the file if the photographed work is also free. For museum exhibits, artwork (even publicly installed), architectural structures (e.g., buildings) or other copyrighted works, this can depend upon things like c:COM:FOP, c:COM:DM and c:COM:CB, and how the applicable copyright laws are interpreted.

As for fair use / fair dealing and non-free content, these things aren't the same per se when it comes to (English) Wikipedia; non-free content needs to be used in accordance with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy and this policy was intentionally set up to be more restrictive than either fair use or fair dealing. So, just claiming something is fair use, for example, doesn't automatically mean using it on Wikipedia will be seen as policy compliant. NC-ND types of CC licenses are treated as non-free content for Wikipedia's purposes; so, such images need to satisfy Wikipedia policy. For visual media artists, the idea is still to use as much free content (i.e., freely licensed) as possible whenever possible; in some cases, though, non-free content might be OK when its use can be justified per WP:NFCCP. For a visual artist, that could be a non-free image of their best-known work (the one that has received the most critical coverage in reliable sources) (as long as item 6 of WP:NFC#UUI is not deemed an issue) or the work considered to be the most representative of their particular style or technique (again according to reliable sources). Anything else beyond that probably will have a hard time meeting one or more of the NFCCP.

Finally, regardless of how a copyright holder decides to license their creative work or how they decide to make it available to others, they as the copyright holder are responsible for enforcing their copyright if they feel their rights are being violated as explained in c:COM:ENFORCE; moreover, Creative Commons licenses are, in principle, non-revocable as explained in c:COM:LRV, which means they pretty much last as long as the work is eligible for copyright protection. These are some other reasons why Commons tends to delete files of questionable licensing and sometimes requires formal c:COM:VRT verification of copyright holder c:COM:CONSENT. Commons can't control what other websites do, but it tries to make sure as best as it can that the content it hosts meets its licensing policy.

My example of a Non-free fair use rationale for biographic articles: This photo might be subject to copyright (although it seems to be a snapshot photo with no known copyright notifications), its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

• It is a historically significant because it seems to be the only existing photo of a notable individual who is subject of a WP article.
• It is and extracted detail of of much lower resolution than the original which is likely a negative original; in its current state it is poor quality and low resolution.
• The image is being used solely for educational and informational purposes for the Wikipedia encyclopedia's readership.
• Using this photo in the biographic article on this person no longer alive significantly contributes to the quality of the article and the readership's understanding of the subject because the person depicted in the photo and their historical significance are the object of discussion in the article.

I see I made a mistake when I tried to add the DYK stats for James Reuel Smith. No problem, you added to the archive, but that should be filled only when the month is assembled. You add a new one to WP:DYKSTATS, header the current month (which is hidden rather below, sorry about that, I didn't design it, and didnt think of it.) Imagine you had one in August, you'd add to plain header "August 2021", sorted within the month by number of views downwards. - Normally the current month and the month before are kept on that page. Open the section for editing and navigate to its end. Add a link to a new category, for example Category:People educated at Scaitcliffe School. Add an edit summary, say Adding a category, and save the page. Yes, save the page linked to a non-existing category. You may also want to remove the section indication from the summary (that is, the /* External links */ part) because your edit affects the article as a whole, not just that section. Now click the red link of what you added among categories links at the bottom of the article, which leads to your new category page, and you'll find yourself editing the new category page. Add some short description of the category meaning (if necessary), and link it to the appropriate super-category by adding Category:People educated by school in Surrey at its bottom. Then save.

This entire process can be done much more simply using WP:HOTCAT. It's a great tool.

Notes on usage so far, & etc.

The essay says: "All you need to do is put "mapframe = yes" in an infobox in order to show a map." I followed these directions, but got an error message every time. I tested it on five different types of infoboxes: Historic site, Settlement, River, NRHP, and Spring, but the map did not display, and the error said "unknown parameter" or something similar. It says that it is "possible and is currently being implemented". The automatic mapping, using just that short bit of code, is already possible in many infoboxes, but not all. • TFAOI.org (Traditional Fine Arts Organization) seems to be a questionable source. It is one person's website that culls info from the web, or asks for submissions. It presents itself as a museum [344], [345] but uses a photo of the Heard Museum because it does not have a museum building itself. They list their address as: TFAO Museum of American Art, 1 Museum Place, City of Knowledge, Great State of Imagination. I can find nothing in the American Alliance of Museums (AAM)about the TFAO Museum of American Art. (I'm a member of the AAM, so can look deeper into their research resources and publications, but I'm not finding anything about TFAO.) It is set up as a 501c.3 run by one person, John Hazeldine, [346], with one person on their board (Mr. Hazeldine). When I logged into Guidestar, it lists their assets as: $0, gross receipts $0, program services $0, administration expenses $50, fundraising, $0, etc. It's used on a lot of of articles, and should probably, at some point, go to RSPN for discussion as to whether or not it should be used.
