아파치 PDFBox(영어: Apache PDFBox)는 오픈 소스 순수 자바 라이브러리로, PDF 파일을 생성, 렌더링, 인쇄, 분할, 병합, 변경, 검증하고 텍스트 및 메타데이터를 추출하는 데 사용할 수 있다.

오픈 허브는 18명의 기여자가 14만 줄 이상의 코드를 작성한 11,000건 이상의 커밋(아파치 프로젝트로 시작된 이후)을 보고하고 있다. PDFBox는 평균 규모의 개발 팀이 유지 관리하는 잘 확립된 성숙한 코드베이스를 보유하고 있으며, 연간 커밋 수가 증가하고 있다. COCOMO 모델을 사용했을 때, 약 46 인년의 노력이 투입된 것으로 추정된다.[2]

구조

아파치 PDFBox는 다음과 같은 구성 요소로 이루어져 있다.

  • PDFBox: 핵심 부분
  • FontBox: 글꼴 정보 처리
  • XmpBox: XMP 메타데이터 처리
  • Preflight (선택 사항): PDF 파일의 PDF/A-1b 준수 여부 확인

역사

PDFBox는 2002년 소스포지에서 벤 리치필드(Ben Litchfield)가 아파치 루씬을 위해 PDF 파일의 텍스트를 추출하고자 시작하였다.[3] 2008년 아파치 인큐베이터 프로젝트가 되었으며, 2009년 아파치 최상위 프로젝트가 되었다.[4]

Preflight는 원래 PaDaF라는 이름으로 아토스 월드라인에서 개발되었으며, 2011년 프로젝트에 기증되었다.[5]

2015년 2월, 아파치 PDFBox는 PDF 협회의 오픈 소스 파트너 조직으로 지정되었다.[6]
