Catopuma adalah genus yang terdiri dari dua kucing Asia kecil, Kucing merah (C. badia) dan Kucing emas asia (C. temminckii).

Keduanya biasanya berwarna cokelat kemerahan, dengan tanda-tanda gelap di kepala. Mereka mendiami lingkungan hutan di Asia Tenggara, dengan kucing merah terbatas hanya di pulau Kalimantan. Awalnya dianggap dua subspesies dari hewan yang sama, analisis genetik baru-baru ini telah mengkonfirmasi bahwa mereka memang spesies yang terpisah.[2]

Dua spesies menyimpang dari satu sama lain 4,9-5,3 juta tahun yang lalu, jauh sebelum Kalimantan terpisah dari pulau-pulau tetangga.[3] Keluarga terdekat mereka adalah Kucing Batu, dari mana nenek moyang dari genus Catopuma menyimpang sekitar 9,4 juta tahun yang lalu.[4]
