Neofelis adalah genus yang terdiri dari dua spesies, macan dahan (N. nebulosa) dari Asia daratan, dan macan dahan Borneo (N. diardi) dari Sumatra dan Kalimantan.[1][2]

Nama ilmiah Neofelis adalah gabungan dari kata dalam bahasa Yunani neo- (νεο-) berarti "baru", dan kata dalam bahasa Latin felis berarti "kucing", secara harfiah berarti "kucing baru".[3][4]
