Glengilp (også kendt som Glenfyne og Glendarroch) var et Highland single malt skotsk whisky-destilleri beliggende på bredden af Crinan Canal ved Ardrishaig, Argyll and Bute i den vestlige del af Skotland. Det eksisterede fra 1831 til 1937.

Historie

Det blev bygget i 1831 af Henry Hoey & Company. I 1852 blev det overtaget af Peter McNee & Co. Peter McNee døde i 1855, og destilleriet blev sat til salg[1] med beskrivelsen af, at det var i stand til at producere 1.000 gallons whisky om ugen.[2]

Fra 1857 blev det drevet af John McGann, Thomas Taylor Hay, William Hay og William Hay junior, der handlede under navnet William Hay & Co. John McGann forlod partnerskabet i 1862.[3] Thomas Taylor Hay forlod partnerskabet i 1865.[4] William Hay forlod virksomheden i 1869, og den blev videreført af William Hay junior.[5] Det blev sat til salg i 1871, hvor det blev oplyst, at det kunne producere 3.000 gallons whisky om ugen.[6]

Det blev købt i 1873 af William Smyth & Co for £5.000, men i 1878 blev de erklæret konkurs.[7] I 1879 vendte det tilbage til navnet Glengilp, da Kemp & Co overtog driften. Dette firma blev opløst i 1882, og William Gillies drev det fra 1884 til 1887.

Omkring 1886 blev det besøgt af Alfred Barnard, som offentliggjorde en beskrivelse af det i sin bog The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom:

Glendarroch-destilleriet dækker tre acres jord og er solidt opført i sten i form af en firkant med en facade på 150 m ud mod [Crinan]-kanalen … Den årlige produktion er 80.000 gallons.

I 1887 blev det opkøbt af Scotch Whisky Distillers Limited og omdøbt til Glenfyne. Dette selskab ophørte med driften i 1889. Det blev sat til salg af bobestyrerne for William Foulds’ bo i 1891[9], hvor det blev oplyst, at det havde en kapacitet på 150.000 gallons.

Det blev opkøbt af Robertson & Baxter Ltd. i 1919 og licenseret til Glenfyne Distillery Co. Destilleriet lukkede i 1937, selv om dets lagerbygninger fortsat blev anvendt i flere år. Bygningerne blev endeligt revet ned i 1996, og der blev opført boliger på stedet.
